Looking to go back to school?
-For high school graduates with disabilities, in two-year, four-year, and graduate school programs
Beginning with support in the state’s budget in 2019, OOD launched Ohio College2Careers to ensure students with disabilities have the support they need to complete their degree and/or credential, earn higher wages, and meet the demands of tomorrow’s labor market.
To qualify for financial support from OOD, college students with disabilities must apply and be eligible for OOD services. The student and family must also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form. OOD will provide financial support to eligible students with disabilities, in two-year, four-year, and graduate school programs, while participating in OOD services, distributed evenly each academic term of this school year, toward tuition or educational expenses regardless of the student’s financial status.
Apply Today On OODWorks
-For All College Students, You Likely Qualify For Grants
Every college student should complete the FAFSA to see if they are eligible for government aid. If you have an intellectual disability, you may receive funding from the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, and Federal Work-Study programs.

-For High School Students Who Want To Take College Courses At No Cost Until High School Graduation
Ohio’s College Credit Plus can help you earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from community colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. Taking a college course from a public college or university College Credit Plus is free. That means no cost for tuition, books or fees if you attend public school in the state of Ohio. If you choose to attend a private college or are homeschooled, you may have limited costs.
Your high school may have an agreement with a local college for specific courses, however, you can choose to take College Credit Plus courses from any college that offers a course that would benefit your future. This could include online courses.
Once you find the university or college you would like to attended for College Credit Plus, you can go to their website and complete the application—each school has their own process and procedures; as well as their own requirements to enroll in College Credit Plus.

STABLE Accounts
A STABLE Account is an investment account available to eligible people with disabilities. STABLE accounts have some similar features to normal bank accounts, but they are not checking or savings accounts. STABLE accounts are investment accounts similar to 529 college savings accounts or 401(k) retirement accounts.
When you deposit money into your STABLE Account, your money will be invested in different options that you choose. While you can still withdraw and spend your money whenever you need it, a STABLE Account allows you to grow your money and save long-term for disability expenses.
-
Participants can get their own STABLE card that can be used to spend money on qualified expenses.
-
Balances and distributions do not affect needs-based financial aid such as Medicaid or SSI.
-
Earnings on savings are tax-deferred and tax-free when used to pay for qualified expenses.
